Morella

Wednesday 22nd November 2017

Today, Kim, Carol & I took a drive up to Morella, Castellón. It is an ancient hill top walled city about 125km north of our campsite.

I was looking forward to driving up into the mountains as it was riding on mountain roads that was the main attraction of my motorcycle trips.

Kim was keener to check out the famous blankets of Morella, and the history of the town. Details of all the sights of Morella are here.

The drive up went well and the anticipated mountain roads were well surfaced and wide.

As we drove up the Coll d’Ares, part of the CV-15, we pulled over for a spot of lunch with fine views of the hill top town of Ares del Maestrat high above.

We continued on until Morello appeared before us, a stunning sight.

Once inside the city walls we parked up in one of the many free places and set off to explore the town and lofty castle.

The only blankets we saw seemed to be cheap replicas and we saw no outlets open selling the genuine articles.

We paid the €3.50 entrance fee and began the half hour climb up to the top of the castle. This afforded views for miles in all directions.

At the end of our visit we entered the castles’ church. This is in the process of renovation.

By the time we had travelled back to camp it was quite dark. We were welcomed back at the caravan to the wonderful smells of a Spanish Bean & Chorizo dish that Kim had prepared and had been cooking in the slow cooker all day. Superb with one or two (ish) San Miguels 🙂
