Today was another moving day to meet up with Lutz for the long planned Superbowl party. We had arranged this at Vilanova Park back in mid December. The route was of 150km along non toll motorway and rather hilly in places
Towing Kilometres – Today: 149 Cumulative: 9,553
Lutz had suggested, on his parents recommendation, that we should meet at Camping Don Cactus, about 100km east of Malaga. They had spent good times at the site around ten years previously, he had said.
I had looked at some reviews for this site online and was not exactly overwhelmed with how the site was described now. My apprehension increased when, enroute to the site, we received a WhatsApp message from Lutz simply stating “Don’t be shocked when you leave the motorway…”
When we did leave the motorway we immediately knew what he was talking about. Somewhere in this probably two kilometre wide ocean of plastic poly tunnels was Don Cactus!
We signed in to the site which, with camping card, is €19 a night for a full service pitch. The wash facilities are modern & very clean. There are laundry facilities and the site has an excellent restaurant. The pool was closed at this time of year.
Having chosen a pitch, we postponed setting up until after the three of us visited the restaurant for a rather good 3 course menú del dia and a couple of cervezas 🙂
On return to the van we got set up and then rested up a bit as preparation for the long night ahead (the game was scheduled to kick off at 00:30 local time)
Lutz came over to the van for dinner around 8 o’clock and a couple of bottles of vino tinto were consumed whilst chatting and playing Jenga (I destroyed the stack both games. Doh!) After that we played Yahtzee to rules that Lutz seemingly made up on the spot yet still failed to stop Kim winning 🙂
Around midnight we made our way over to Lutzs’ van to watch the game on German TV. Fortunately quite a few American football terms do not translate into German so we were able to follow commentary ok.
The Superbowl game was an excellent watch, The Eagles deservedly winning in style. All three of us stayed awake too! 🙂
It was lovely to see Lutz again and we hope to see him again in Berlin later in the year.
