South Toward Seville

Saturday 24th February 2018

We had spent a comfortable eight nights at Camping Cáceres at a total cost of €102, a bargain. However, the overnight temperatures had started to drop just below freezing and the forecast was for much the same for a while. So further south toward Seville was the plan.We decided to head for the area around Seville and chose another Camping Card site at El Rocio, Camping Le Aldea.  This involved a journey of 335km, most of it on Autovia.

The journey progressed well until about 60km short of Seville. The Garmin sat-nav informed me that the A49 was closed and that it was re-routing us. Unfortunately it appeared to want me to head back north!
Kim consulted Google maps looking for an alternative and came up with a short cut avoiding the closed part of the A49. This took us through a couple of very busy small towns but shouldn’t have been a problem. However……

Towing Kilometres – Today: 335 Cumulative: 10,674

The Garmin was saying turn left. Kims phone was saying turn left. Inexplicably Kim decided we should take a slight right turn and pointed to the road. Moments later we were in the narrowest of one way streets! One man had to move as we had to squeeze between his front door and a parked car 🙂

Clearing that obstacle and we were then faced with this; (except, being Saturday it was full of cars)

The only way out was a 140° left turn into an even narrower street. Kim had to abandon the car to watch the rear of the van as I attempted the turn. Must have been my lucky day as no paint was scraped in making the move 🙂

A period of navigation induced quietness ensued in the cabin 🙂

We were soon back on the A49 and able to stop to refill the LPG tanks in the van. I bought a couple of faux cornettos for us to enjoy. The gas cost €5, the ice creams €7!!

We arrived at Campsite La Aldea without further incident and booked in for at least 4 nights. The pitches are of reasonable size and the facilities are good. The only downside so far is the pitches are of sand which is hard to keep out of the van.
