Our campsite was located in the Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park; a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It very much resembled the landscape of the old ‘cowboy’ films and this location has, in the past, been the location for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, James Bond and Never Say Never Again and several spaghetti westerns. We had a need to move farther south into Andalucia because we had made arrangements to meet up with Lutz on February 4th to watch the Superbowl and he was currently in Seville.
I chose a site down toward Almeria as it would leave a short tow to the agreed meeting place near Motril.
Campsite Los Escullos had reasonable reviews and is priced, with Camping Card, at €19 a night including electricity. It was a straightforward 250km tow on the non toll A7/E15.
As a reward for our earlier cycle ride, we decided to treat ourselves to a meal in the bar area. On a previous day we had enjoyed the menu Del dia, in the main restaurant. It was good value, at €9.95 each for a choice of 3 courses, including a drink, bread and an appetiser of sobrasada De Mallorca.; a smooth, spicy chorizo pate/paste, ideal for spreading on crispy bread.
