We had learned many weeks ago that nephew Elliot would be visiting his friend Dylan, who is on a teaching assignment, in Granada for a few days from the 17th. We wanted to meet up with him for lunch to catch up. A Granada rendezvous 🙂
We intended to leave Marjal and return to the campsite we had used on the way over from Seville. On looking at the weather forecast this idea was quickly shelved as the forecast for Granada was frankly horrible for the next week. Heavy rain and periods of snow forecast with maximum temperature of 6°C during the day!
We decided to return to Don Cactus, a site we had enjoyed in early February, where the forecast was rather more favourable i.e. warm 🙂
We could drive up the excellent, scenic, A44 Autovia for the meet up with Elliot.
Towing Kilometres – Today: 364 Cumulative: 11,689
The route involved roads we had towed before and passed without incident in fine weather. The site was much quieter than in February with most of the snowbirds having migrated back north 🙂
Tuesday 20th March 2018
We left the campsite under clear blue skies and a temperature of 16°. It was quite windy and the wind gusts increased in severity as we climbed up toward Granada. On a couple of occasions on exposed sections of the road I was very pleased we were not towing the caravan today.
We soon had fine views of the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada and noticed that the clouds were increasing quickly as we progressed north.
We arrived in good time at our agreed meeting place, Plaza De La Trinidad and sat outside a bar awaiting Elliots arrival. It was quite pleasant sitting in the plaza when the sun emerged from the growing clouds, as we sampled a local tapa, migas.
When Elliot appeared we ordered more drinks but just as the barman came out with our order the weather quickly turned for the worst and sleet started to fall quite heavily.
The plaza emptied very quickly 🙂
We felt our decision not to camp nearby was thoroughly vindicated!
We adjourned inside to enjoy our drinks with a tapa of potatoes and to have a good catch up 🙂
We later wandered down the road to have a Menú Del DÃa at a different restaurant for the bargain price of €9.90 each including a drink before saying our goodbyes.
No more than 10km south of Granada we were once again under clearer skies and the temperature rising again 🙂
