Whilst visiting Zambujeira beach yesterday we noticed that the road led steeply up away from here in the opposite direction so decided to investigate.
Work on a huge new car park was underway at the top of the cliffs which although not particularly attractive would possibly help to take the many tourists away from the small village during peak times.
From this point we spotted another beach below the cliffs and a few cars parked above. So we headed back out onto the main road to find out how to reach the beach.
Again there were marked areas of the Fisherman’s Trail which we have mentioned in our post on Zambujeira do Mar.
Success! We drove down a rough dusty road on the right hand side and headed for the sea where we found a small car parking area above the cliffs. The beach known as Alteirinhos was down a very long steep wooden stairway.
Unbeknown to us at this point as we had not read the signs, the beach is one of the authorised beaches for nudism.
Luckily for us the part of the beach furthest away from the steps was the naturist section so we were also able to enjoy this secluded, peaceful sandy beach along with a few other like minded visitors 😉
There are no amenities here but the joy is to admire the beautiful sandy beach, towering cliffs, rock formations and wild waves.
After some time spent just enjoying nature at its best we made the long ascent back up the stairway to the car.
