Our journey today continued north toward Parque de Campismo Sol de Vila Chã, our chosen base for visiting Porto.
This trip involved a 235km tow mostly on fine two lane motorway toll roads. The last 3 kilometres, however, were on very rough cobbled streets where I feared for the integrity of the caravan and its’ contents even at less than 20km per hour.
On arrival we received a friendly greeting and given vouchers for a welcome drink of port wine at the bar, a nice touch.
Towing Kilometres – Today: 235 Cumulative: 13,137
We were shown to our pitch, situated on what appeared to be a recent extension of the site. The established part of the site was rammed full of caravans, motorhomes, and tents of all shapes and sizes.
At least our pitch on the new part gave us plenty of room to put up the awning and park the car nearby. Later, ‘our’ part of the site filled as well, resulting in very long extension leads snaking across the ground to reach the limited new power outlets.
The facilities were acceptable and clean but rather swamped by the shear number of people staying, and not helped by the hot water being shut off completely between 23:00 & 08:00.
At €15 a night, with ACSI Camping Card, Parque de Campismo Sol de Vila Chã is good value and a very good base for visiting Porto.
It is less than 3km away from a modern Metro system, with plentiful free parking, which offers a stress free way to visit the city for €4 return.
