The continuation of our journey through the Lofoten islands would take us to one of the larger islands in the archipelago, Austvågøy or Austvågøya, located between the Vestfjorden and the Norwegian Sea.

The journey along the E10 took us through several tunnels and over a number of bridges.
We circumnavigated our way around the east side of Austvågøya, enjoying the many views across the fjords to small villages on the water’s edge or to the huge mountainous backdrops.
We paused to take a break on the Norwegian Scenic Route at Austnesfjorden. We managed to find a spot in the small rest area, just off the main road even with the caravan in tow!
Ray headed off with the drone to try and capture some pics and I climbed the wooden steps to take in the views from high above. As always no photos can do justice to the stunning views all around.
We continued south following the edge of the vast Husvågen lake and as we made our approach towards the larger town of Svolvær, the weather began to pick up and the sun made an appearance.
Following the E10 as far as the Gimsøystraumen bridge, we finished the last leg of our journey on FV 864 before arriving at Rystad Lofoten Camping in Kleppstad.
The site is relatively small, with unmarked pitches and a small but extremely clean sanitary block comprising, 2 shower rooms with toilet and basin, as well as 2 further WCs and a well equipped, compact kitchen area with a small seating area. (Showers cost an additional 10NOK).
We did make use of the washing machine though, at a bargain price of 20NOK for 80 minutes! 3 nights with electricity 840NOK.
We had superb views out across the fjord and beyond to the sea, as well as a superb backdrop of a huge mountain side, which was a perfect spot for paragliding, as we witnessed on a couple of occasions.
Despite having little darkness during our time, we witnessed a beautiful sunset and slept extremely well due to the quietness of the location.
