Torrevieja Costa Blanca Lunch

Monday 4th February 2019

After a well deserved lay in, following last nights’ Super Bowl we headed off to nearby Torrevieja on the Costa Blanca coast, in search of a more authentic Spanish lunch and a stroll around the port area.

We had been to Torrevieja a few times on our previous visits to this part of Spain and knew we would be able to find a few restaurants that would suit. Torrevieja is more of a resort town and is well known as a popular area for British ex-pats, as well as Germans and Scandinavians.

We easily found parking close to the salt pier and spent a little time watching the endless trail of glistening white salt being transported along the full length of the pier on a never ending conveyor and into the waiting ship at the end of the pier.

Torrevieja has a long history of salt mining and as you approach the town you can see huge mountains of this precious commodity drying in the sun.

Despite only a few restaurants open along this small stretch of beach we were pleased with our choice and enjoyed a delightful menu Del dia, at the modest price of €10 each, including 3 courses, bread and beer. The paella and tuna fish soup starter were a great hit, as was the lamb chop main course and the traditional Spanish custard tart postre.

After lunch we made our way along the beach towards the marina and meandered our way through the moored boats, including one from Salcombe in Devon and rather nice vessel from Delaware, USA!

Back at Marjal we said our farewells to Lutz, who was flying back home to Berlin tomorrow to spend some time with Antje, his wife and celebrate his mums 80th birthday with family and friends.

Lutz had found an aire a mile or so down the road to spend the night, FOC, before storing his campervan in a secure site, close to Alicante airport for the week he will be away.

Hopefully this won’t be the last time we meet up with Lutz whilst we continue our tour of Europe.
