About 10 kilometres to the south of Torrevieja is Cabo Roig. It is a popular resort in an area known as the Oriheula Costa. We had not visited here before, so decided to head to the marina area and enjoy a stroll along the coastal walk before heading back into Torrevieja for a spot of lunch with Andy on his first official day with us.
We made the mistake of taking the AP-7 from the campsite all the way and incurred 2 toll charges. In hindsight, we could have avoided these.
We managed to find some free parking overlooking the newly revamped Cabo Roig Marina, next to the 16th century watchtower, which is now part of a restaurant complex, with stunning views out to sea.
We descended a flight of steps towards the marina area and La Bahia restaurant/bar situated on the rocky sea front. Further around the coast to the south is the Cala Caleta beach, which already seemed a popular spot for sunbathers.
After admiring a few of the boats in the marina and several shoals of large fish we headed off along the Cabo Roig to La Zenia cliff/coastal walk.
The man-made walkway winds its way around the coast and overhanging cliffs before descending to Zenia beach, a huge sandy beach, which was deserted on the day we visited.
We made our way back the same way following the contours of the coast and even spotted a couple of groups of scuba divers just off the rocky coast.
The views out to sea, the rocky coastline and huge cliffs were a delight, although the back drop along several areas of the path were not always as appealing but don’t let that put you off experiencing this popular walk.
Once back in the car, we made our way to Torrevieja, where Andy treated us to lunch at one of the restaurants in the marina. Cheers!
