Time to move on again and continuing our anti clockwise tour of the Peloponnese I picked out a Camping Card site in Koroni, aptly named Camping Koroni.
It’s reviews weren’t stunning, and, after the excellent Camping Ionian, we knew we may well be onto a hiding to nothing.

We planned a route that took us through Pylos and the plan went very smoothly indeed until we descended into the town.
Google Maps kept asking for an impossible U-turn, or turns into the narrowest of streets, (luckily ignored this time 🙂 ), resulting in the inevitable frustration & annoyance.
This, added to the interference of a well meaning tourist, led to a hastily executed reverse manoeuvre, and then a lap of the excellent looking town square to go back from whence we came.
A subsequent visit the next day to this lovely town showed all this to be unnecessary as we could easily have passed quietly through without problem.
Back on track we progressed nicely toward Koroni. Excellent views were to be had most of the way.
A bit of a swerve was required on one downhill section when we exited a corner to find a large, perhaps a metre long, snake in the middle of the road.
We went right over the top of it and luckily for the snake all six wheels missed the critter. We saw a few others that had not been so fortunate.
Around a half hour later we sailed straight past the entrance to the campsite and approached the town of Koroni only to be faced with a ‘No Caravans In Town’ sign. Bugger.
No place to reverse and turn around here so we had to uncouple the caravan and turn it on the motor mover. An eventful trip today.
On finally getting to reception, the helpful lady owner said that there were only two pitches left that our van would fit as she had 25 Dutch motorhomes arriving. We chose the larger of the two, something we came to regret as it was close to a fairly busy, and noisy, road.
The facilities are fairly dated, but clean enough. There is a pool, a restaurant, taverna, and mini-market that provides bread in the mornings amongst other produce.
There is free site-wide Wi-Fi that is reasonably fast.
It is a three minute walk down into the town where you can visit the Venetian Castle that sits above the town on the headland nearby.
There are many bars and restaurants in town and we had a nice dinner in one this evening 🙂
