Disaster Recovery Plan

Thursday 20th June 2019

After the wallet loss disaster in Athens we decided on Sunday to head back to the oasis that is Camping Ionion Beach to await delivery of my new credit cards and iPhone.

Towing Kilometres – Today: 289 Cumulative: 32,339

We knew the site to be quiet at night and the excellent swimming pool a good place to cool down on the hot afternoons.

The journey was rather costly on the toll roads but the driving is so much easier 🙂

On arrival at the campsite the owner recognised us and was surprised at our return so soon as he knew we had planned to go up through Bulgaria. I explained about the loss of wallet with licence in. Even though our Camping Card was lost too, he agreed to let us stay again at the €20 rate.

While here this week we have carried out domestic chores, caravan maintenance, supermarket shopping, and a lot of sitting in the shade. We go to the pool around 5 o’clock when the majority of the kids have left 🙂

As of today my son Paul has received 2 credit cards, 1 debit card, & the new phone. I have contacted the DVLA who suggested I go online and download a copy of my driving entitlements as a PDF file, and I have had this printed out too.

If your ever in the same position here is the link.

The next step was to try and get the stuff couriered out here but plan B is now that we will fly back to Heathrow on Saturday evening, collect the cards etc, sofa surf somewhere that night, and return to Kalamata on Sunday morning. This also serves the purpose of resetting our 90 day limit travel insurance.

If the licence hasn’t arrived by Saturday we’ll then have to consider which way to travel from here.
