We moved on again today to Camping Kalogria in Stoupa. We want to get our tour of the Pelopennes completed before the temperatures get very silly and it’s forecast to be 30°C today.
The planned route took us north on the same roads as we had taken to Messena, then east around Kalamata before joining the new 7 road south toward Stoupa.
Ancient Messene was the target of our interest today to visit the archaeological ruins of the large classical city-state founded around 370BC.
The route took us 62km north on some of the roads we intend to use when we leave Camping Koroni so it was nice to be able to check their suitability.
Although there is seldom a straight piece of road there should be no problem towing the caravan.
The final twelve or so kilometres were almost all uphill on hairpin bended roads and the views became better and better.
On arrival at the site we parked up in a nice shady spot as the temperatures under the hot sun were increasing rapidly. Continue reading Ancient Messene→
Top of our plan list today was to drive back over to Pylos for lunch. Even during our tribulations in the town yesterday it looked like a nice place to be.
Time to move on again and continuing our anti clockwise tour of the Peloponnese I picked out a Camping Card site in Koroni, aptly named Camping Koroni.
It’s reviews weren’t stunning, and, after the excellent Camping Ionian, we knew we may well be onto a hiding to nothing.
We took a drive out today to visit Olympia, where the ancient Olympic games were held, every four years, from the 8th century BC to the 4th century AD.
It was a journey of about 70km each way and we took advantage of the lower diesel prices here to fill the cars tank. I don’t think the lady doing the filling could have got another drop in 🙂 Continue reading Olympia Visit→
