The next place we hoped to visit was the Plitvice Lakes National Park. I had visited in 2009 on the way down to Dubrovnik and was sure Kim would like to see it.
It would also provide our first ‘white water’ fix in many a month. 🙂
Kim trawled the ACSI campsite book and the internet and chose Campsite Slapić near Duga Resa, Croatia as our base for the next few days.
The trip was fairly long, 410km, but progress was good on smooth motorway and with only a short delay at the border.
The site is very nice. There are marked out pitches of various sizes and an open area available too. The facilities are modern and very clean. The restaurant provides a wide range of dishes at very reasonable prices. The bar bill is very reasonable 🙂

We left around 10:30 to drive the 75km down to Plitvice. We hadn’t booked tickets but the campsite receptionist said that tickets would likely be available if we got there around 12:00. The first part of the route was around 14km of very narrow lanes but the rest was on a fine road.
We joined a short queue to buy tickets for the 13:00 to 14:00 timed entry slot. They were 250 Croation Kuna each, about £30.
With half an hour to wait for our time slot we both had a large but expensive burger each then stopped to watch this band and dancers for a while 🙂
The national park was founded in 1949 and added to the UNESCO list in 1979. It has an area of almost 300 square kilometres.
There are 16 lakes on different levels that feed down through many waterfalls. The clear blue waters are home to many fish.
Rather than try to describe the beauty of Plitvice Lakes, I’ll let the video do the talking 🙂
We spent around 5 hours at the park and according to Kims’ watch we walked 10km, climbed 31 flights of stairs and did 19,000 steps.
Gonna need another burger!!
