Whilst on our visit to the Millau visitors centre earlier in the week we had picked up a Discovery Guide to Aveyron, in which was an article about “Les Plus Beaux Villages de France”. One of the 10 listed villages in Aveyron was Peyre, just a very short 11 km drive downstream from Millau.

We were lucky that the small hill top town of Bidart was just a short walk or cycle ride away from our base, although the journey up to the town took a little more effort than the return 😉 The well known resort town of Biarritz and its international airport was also only about 6 kms north from here, although we never visited during our stay. As we knew today was probably going to be our last in the Picos de Europa we were enthusiastic to make the most of the limited time available and the best of the weather.
On our way into Potes yesterday, we had passed by an impressive building, named the Centro de visitants Sotama, so we headed back to investigate.
Barreiros, our current base, is in the region of A Mariña Oriental on the northern Galician coast and along its 8 kms of coastline are several beautiful and often deserted beaches, as well as the very popular Praia das Catedrais. Continue reading Praia das Catedrais or Cathedrals Beach→
