Todtnauer Waterfall

After a couple of days of inclement weather we decided to escape our cabin fever and take a drive out and boy were we taken by surprise.

Saturday had been a glorious day and we had enjoyed a circular walk through the historic wine trail that was directly opposite our campsite.

The trail made a steady climb through endless vineyards whilst enjoying the views below. Information boards, in German, provided details of the history of the vineyards and the purpose of the trail and the Castellberg Project.

The sight of so many vines came as quite a shock to both of us as neither of us had any idea that this area in Germany was home to one of the country’s wine growing regions, although that said, 80% of production is sold locally 😉 Continue reading Todtnauer Waterfall

The Zugspitze in the Wetterstein Mountains, Germany

About 18 kms south of Oberammergau is the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and the location of the Zugspitzbahnhof. Here you can take the cogwheel train via Grainau on the Eibsee Lake, through the 4.8 km Zugspitze Tunnel to the Zugspitzeplatt. The entire journey takes about 80 minutes. Trains only run once an hour up and back so best to check the times before visiting.

Once at Zugspitzeplatt the Gletscherbahn cable car will transport you to the summit of the mountain.
