Having seen it many times on TV over the years we were both keen to visit the Corinth Canal.

Over the weekend we did very little. Enjoying, and sheltering from, the very hot & humid weather interspersed with domestic chores and a couple of cooling evening swims at Kalogria Beach. We had an excellent meal out in Stoupa whilst watching the world go by.
We moved on again today to Camping Kalogria in Stoupa. We want to get our tour of the Pelopennes completed before the temperatures get very silly and it’s forecast to be 30°C today.
The planned route took us north on the same roads as we had taken to Messena, then east around Kalamata before joining the new 7 road south toward Stoupa.

Ancient Messene was the target of our interest today to visit the archaeological ruins of the large classical city-state founded around 370BC.
The route took us 62km north on some of the roads we intend to use when we leave Camping Koroni so it was nice to be able to check their suitability.
Although there is seldom a straight piece of road there should be no problem towing the caravan.
The final twelve or so kilometres were almost all uphill on hairpin bended roads and the views became better and better.
On arrival at the site we parked up in a nice shady spot as the temperatures under the hot sun were increasing rapidly. Continue reading Ancient Messene
Top of our plan list today was to drive back over to Pylos for lunch. Even during our tribulations in the town yesterday it looked like a nice place to be.
