Today we headed east to visit the Cathedral at Santiago de Compestela. We were aware that many thousands of pilgrims and hikers make the pilgrimage, the Camino de Santiago, along various routes to visit the remains of St. James believed to be buried here. Apart from the many ports and towns lining this area of Galicia’s coastline which we passed on our way to our destination, we have been blessed with two beaches adjacent to our campsite and we were keen to check them out.
Just a short walk from the campsite was the delightful fine white sandy beach of Lariño which stretches 2 kms towards the lighthouse, El Faro, at Punta Ínsua.
Today, we continued our trek northward and back into Spain.
The route was of approximately 270km on toll motorways passing near Braga, Vigo, and Pontevedra, places we will have to visit on another trip.
Our rough plan is still to visit Scandinavia this summer so we need to press on north a bit.
We were heading for Camping Ancoradoiro, in Galicia.

The campsite is about 100 metres from an excellent white sand beach and would serve as a base to visit Santiago De Compostela and spend some R&R time on the sand.
On Monday, although still feeling under the weather a little, we packed up and set off for our next site, Camping Giralda at Isla Cristina. This involved an incident free tow of 288km mostly on motorway with clear skies and ever increasing temperatures. We saw 28°C for a while.

From the Barbate area to Caños de Meca and inland towards Vejer de la Frontera there is one of the smallest nature parks in Andalusia with some 5,000 hectares, the Breña y Marismas del Barbate Nature Park.
It contains five different ecosystems: marine, cliff, pine grove, marshland and dunes. Special mention should be made of the stunning Tajo de Barbate. It is more than 100 metres high and is the most famous area of cliffs on the Atlantic coast of Andalusia.
