Today we visited the medieval walled Old Town of Cáceres. Founded by the Romans around 25BC, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1986.

We had driven through the Monfragüe National Park on the journey from Madrid. We were keen to investigate it further before moving further south. So today we drove north for about an hour on the marvellous A66 Autovia to find the visitor centre in the only inhabited village in the park, Villareal De San Carlos.
