Ray has always been keen to visit places with a connection to World War events and our proximity to the city of Arnhem made a trip to the John Frost Bridge, The Bridge Too Far, in Arnhem a real possibility.

Unbeknown to us our chosen destination was in an area of Gelderland called Achterhoek. It is a delightful rural area and a superb spot for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. We had views of the River and were surrounded by fields, farms and had access to a web of cycle routes, clearly signposted, which made exploring the area and the small villages around us so easy. Whilst on our visit to the Millau visitors centre earlier in the week we had picked up a Discovery Guide to Aveyron, in which was an article about āLes Plus Beaux Villages de Franceā. One of the 10 listed villages in Aveyron was Peyre, just a very short 11 km drive downstream from Millau.
