Ronda

Monday 11th March 2019

Our campsite is conveniently situated about a 30 minute walk away from the Puerta de Almocábar across the road from a small plaza, Ruedo Alameda where you can begin your visit to historic Ronda.

Ronda’s commanding position above the Tajo Gorge is spectacular and the town enjoys views over mountains of the Serranía de Ronda (Ronda Mountain Range) and the Sierra de las Nieves (Snow Mountain Range) Natural Park.

We enjoyed a villa holiday in rural Ronda about 15 years ago and have been looking forward to revisiting this delightful town.

Despite the large new hospital which opened in 2017, new tarmac roads and a few more new dwellings than we remember, the main historic centre of Ronda hasn’t really changed much and we were pleased that it has remained much of its charm and rural feel. Continue reading Ronda

Touring the white villages of the ‘Serranía’

Sunday 10th March 2019

Our campsite El Sur is situated on the outskirts of the town of Ronda, surrounded by beautiful views of the landscape, National Parks and the Serranía de Ronda, in the heart of the Malaga Province. It is one of the most peaceful and picturesque areas of Spain to visit, in our humble opinion.

From our campsite we headed north around Ronda and headed off on the A-374 signposted to Seville. The main roads in this area are wonderful and offer spectacular views.

Gaudix Barrio Troglodyte

One of the places we had wanted to visit was the cathedral town of Gaudix. We had passed it last year whilst near Granada but the weather had not been conducive at the time. With the temperatures in the 20’s and the sun shining, now was our opportunity. In hindsight we would recommend visiting the town between a stop to or from Granada.

From our campsite in Güejar Sierra it meant either a journey circumnavigating Granada, which pushed up the mileage or cutting cross country up spectacular narrow windy roads to the main A-92 to Gaudix. (The roller-coaster route which we took whilst towing the caravan to the campsite).

Güejar Sierra

Tuesday 5th March 2019

The village of Güejar Sierra is located approximately 1100 metres on the north western slope of the Parque Natural de Sierra Nevada, along the hillside of the Cerro del Calar with the beautiful Canales reservoir in the valley below.

It was only 2 kms from our campsite but the approach was all up hill, so we took the car 😉

We don’t mind cycling but the roads in this area are way too steep for ‘us amateurs’ and we only have high praise for the many that we saw in this area. The roads were of Vuelta España standard! Continue reading Güejar Sierra
