Camping De Oude Wilg was a nice place to stay. On arrival we were given a sample of home made raspberry liqueur as well as a sample of ţuică the Romanian National drink.
The facilities are fine and clean with plenty of hot water. We had read reviews complaining of the close proximity to the railway but it wasn’t an issue for us. There is a very well stocked shop a less than five minute walk from the site.
Best of all the price converted to about £11 a night, electricity included!

Back in 2012 I had ridden my motorcycle into Romania specifically to ride the Transfăgărășan Road. The road had been featured on the BBC programme Top Gear in late 2009 and they described it as the worlds best road.

Our base in the tiny village of Kromidovo was just a short drive to Melnik, reputed to be the smallest town in Bulgaria and at last count, a population of 385 inhabitants. We had also read about the well preserved medieval Rozhen Monastery, the largest in the Pirin Mountains. Continue reading A Day In And Around Melnik→
