Approaching Portugal

Thursday 26th April 2018

On Monday, although still feeling under the weather a little, we packed up and set off for our next site, Camping Giralda at Isla Cristina. This involved an incident free tow of 288km mostly on motorway with clear skies and  ever increasing temperatures. We saw 28°C for a while.

Towing Kilometres – Today: 291 Cumulative: 12,331

We were welcomed by the friendly receptionist and directed to choose a pitch. The site is €19 a night, including electricity. The pitches are mostly on sand, not particularly level, and of odd shapes. Many are shaded by pine trees and some shade free. The shower/toilet blocks are the best I have seen on the trip so far. Excellent water pressure, plentiful hot water, in clean & tidy conditions.

We were soon set up and settled down to a drink in the sun. We were soon joined by what are becoming my favourite birds, Iberian Magpies.

On Tuesday around mid-morning we wandered over the road and onto the pleasant beach. We walked toward the town of Isla Crisitina over soft sand before crossing a boardwalk bridge to circle back to camp.

Although in good condition at the start the boardwalk has been seriously neglected. In many places it has been the victim of arson and the practice of clearing up after your dog has certainly not reached Isla Cristina.
Yesterday was a day of domestic duties. The car was cleaned, shopping attended to at a local Mercadona, clothes washed in the twin tub. All interspersed with lazing in the sun. It’s a tough life out here 🙂

Whilst shopping we noticed some really fresh looking lambs liver in the store. We both enjoy liver, so dinner was liver & onions cooked on the plancha with jacket potato and cauliflower. Lovely.

We will be staying here until Saturday morning when we will finally venture into Portugal, two months later than we had planned 🙂

We have a rendezvous arranged with son Paul, his wife Ros, and grandkids Ben and Harriet, at a site near Lagos. Should be fun.
