Oranienburg – Detour to Lutzs’ Place

When we last saw Lutz, 5th February, he offered an open-ended invitation to visit with him at his home in Oranienburg near Berlin.

I contacted him to see if he was around this week and if the invitation still stood.

He confirmed that, although he was busy, he was and we decided to make the 600km detour over to his to stay a few days.

The journey was longer than either wanted to do in one hit so we stopped at Camping Irenensee, Lower Saxony,  for a one night stopover on Monday evening.

We received a nice welcome from reception and told to choose a pitch and report back. As we were only staying the night we selected a pitch near the gate.

Most of the pitches are divided by hedges and are roomy.

Next morning we packed up ready for the next leg to Oranienburg. We travelled mostly on the autobahn, littered with frequent road works which slowed progress to a crawl at times. Around 3pm we arrived at Lutz & Antjes’ fine house.

No need to search for a pitch here. The whole of the large garden was available 🙂

After moving the ‘van into place, we sat down to welcoming beers and a catch up chat. Later we completed the setup and relaxed  while Lutz prepared a BBQ.

Antje & daughter Lisa arrived from work around 7pm and, after introductions, we spent a very pleasant evening eating, drinking, chatting, and watching football, France v Belgium.
