Camping La Albolafia

Last year, while we were in southern Spain, Kim had expressed the wish to visit Córdoba but somehow we skirted all around without ever visiting. Thinking we would fix this omission we headed up toward this famous city.

Referring to the Camping Card book we found a suitable campsite a few kilometeres to the east of the city Camping La Albolafia in Villafranca de Córdoba. The reviews for the site were not too glowing but we have learned to take these with a pinch of salt.

The first part of the 190km route was generally flat with single carriageway roads meandering their way around the hills of the region. This required a couple of stops to allow faster traffic to pass.

A short stop in a convenient layby allowed me to adjust the caravan brakes and soon we were on our way again and joined the smooth, quiet, dual carriageway A45 Autovia and progress was good all the way to the site.

We arrived early afternoon to a friendly welcome at the campsite and booked in for four nights. We were allocated a pitch but told we could choose another if it didn’t suit. On arriving at our pitch it was about to be snapped up by a Dutch couple who obviously didn’t like their allocated pitch, but they kindly agreed to move on further.

The facilities turned out to be better than the reviews with the exception that there is no hot water for washing dishes. This results in folk wandering into the shower blocks with their pots and pans 🙂

A disadvantage of visiting at this time of year is the fall of pollen with every gust of wind which turns everything light green, coupled with hard berries falling which sounds like gunfire on the roof of the caravan! That, and the pool was empty.
