Thursday 15th February
The weather had not been good whilst we were in Aranjuez so we had not really ventured into the town. As today was our last day we decided to walk through the Prince’s Garden to visit the Royal Palace.
From our campsite we were able to take a short cut over the River Tagus via a bridge into the Jardin del Principe, thus avoiding the busy main road into Aranjuez. The river is a popular spot for a large number of geese as well as the local canoe club.
The Garden is vast and at different times of the year must look stunning when in bloom. Even at this time of the year it was well used, by walkers and joggers.
The Royal Palace and other palatial buildings also cover a huge area and are a popular tourist attraction. You will certainly need a good pair of walking shoes and plenty of time to explore all the areas.
The extension to the Royal Palace known as Plaza San Antonio or Mariblanca built by Philip IV of Spain for public and ceremonial royal use stands amongst the cobbled one way road system.
There are admission fees for the Royal Palace and the Palacio del Labrador, but it is still possible to enjoy the elaborate facades and exquisite variety of gardens for free.
As a reward for our effort of the very pleasant walk around the park and town, we returned to the caravan for a refreshing glass of something 🙂
