End Of Our Adventure

Thursday 1st August 2019

Today marked the end of our two year adventure. We packed up the caravan for the last time for a while and made our way from Ypres to catch our Eurotunnel train back to the UK.

Progress was good in light traffic and with no holdups. We were allocated an earlier crossing than we had booked and within 45 minutes we were back to driving on the left on the way to Kims’ parents place in Iver, Buckinghamshire. This will be the vans storage place for a few weeks.

For the next few months we plan to visit friends and family, do some house hunting, and do the inevitable repairs to the caravan.

Some of the cabinets have moved and need glueing back together, the bedroom mirror needs replacing and I plan to completely renew the brake drums, wheel bearings, and brake shoes. The motor mover has shifted down chassis a little on one side. Enough to keep me busy for a while 🙂

Our adventure comes to its’ end and will leave us both with very many nice memories from all over Europe. I would recommend anyone to follow our example to travel Europe in this way, although Brexit will probably scupper a long term tour such as ours in the future.

My thanks go out to all the people that have put us up on our flying visits back to the UK, the new friends we have made on our travels, and especially to Kim for going along with my hare-brained scheme in the first place 🙂

Now we just have to try to come to terms with a ‘normal’ retirement 🙂
