Last Stop – Ypres

Tuesday 30th July 2019

Our base for the visit to Luxembourg was Camping Krounebierg. The site is tiered on a sloping hillside and is well laid out. We had reserved a place in advance and on arrival we were allocated an impossibly narrow and sloping pitch requiring a return to reception to request a change. The second pitch was much larger in size and flat.

The site is a comfortable place to stay with nice amenities including a very nice restaurant with outside terrace. The washrooms nearest to us were in a portacabin type structure but were clean enough with piping hot water.

There is a well stocked shop and sports facilities on the site and it is handily placed for visits to Luxembourg City.

The only problem we saw is that some of the sloping pitches result in imaginative/extreme levelling solutions 🙂

With our two year tour drawing to an end I had booked a pitch for two nights at Campsite Jeugdstadion in Ypres. I have used this site many times over the last ten years during motorcycle visits. It is a short walk from the city walls and the so called ‘touristic places’ give you plenty of space.

After a stop to fill with cheap diesel we made our way out of Luxembourg and were soon into Belgium and had a smooth journey to the site. Reception was open so we didn’t need to make use of the automated reception facility and we were soon set up on our spacious pitch.

Ypres centre is approached down a footpath through a wooded area and then over a bridge that crosses the towns moat. If you turn right after entering through the walls, the impressive Menin Gate is a few minutes walk away.

We had attended the memorial service on previous visits so know that it is a good time to find a table in one of the many restaurants so we headed for straight for dinner.

We will stay here a couple of nights before taking up our Eurotunnel booking which will bring the tour to an end 🙁
