Sunday 23rd & Monday 24th September 2018
Despite the inclement weather we had enjoyed our time at Ballum Camping. We had decided to stay for a third night and do a long drive down to Lutzs’ on Monday.
However, around noon, for some reason I was looking at the weather app on my phone and noticed that the forecast wind for Sunday night and most of Monday was horrendous. 35mph wind gusting to over 50mph! Our encounters with strong winds lately coupled with the recent story in the news of a caravan blown off cliffs in Ireland were playing on my mind. Time for a snap decision!
I turned to Kim and said ‘I think we should leave, now’ and within minutes we had paid and were packing up to head toward Berlin and calmer weather. We knew that, leaving so late, we wouldn’t arrive today but we’d pick a site for the night enroute.

The site chosen turned out to be Camping am Blanksee. A little further away from the A24 autobahn than we would have liked and approached by a bumpy, narrow, and recently stone chipped 8km road, it would serve our purpose well for one night.
We received another warm welcome from the owner and were quickly setup in rather chilly conditions on our sandy pitch.
I managed to get the satellite TV working albeit with a very poor signal strength so we could watch the final episode of Bodyguard on the BBC, a series we had been enjoying. All went well until the gripping finale when a passing shower killed the signal and we were left in limbo. There was no wifi available and zero data on our phones so we couldn’t even stream it.

Monday dawned fine and after a casual pack up we made our way back to the A24 autobahn, thankfully by a better, if not wider, road. We stopped at the first available parking area and streamed the remainder of the programme so as to avoid a spoiler occurring.
We arrived in Oranienburg around 1pm, a good 6 hours before we’d arranged. Fortunately Lutz was home and amiable enough to allow us to setup in his garden again early.
Later we all got together again for a ‘lovely’ evening of sushi, drinking and chatting.
We flew British Airways to London today for 9 days of visiting everyone so the blog will take a rest until our return.
