Prague Bound

Wednesday 10th October 2018

The next place to visit on our wish list is the Czech Republic so we are Prague bound.

The weather forecast for the next two weeks there is very good so today we packed up, paid our bill, and made our way down to the Czech Republic.

Campingplatz Landidyll had served us well as a base for visiting Colditz & Meissen. Although not a Camping Card site we were charged €15 per night plus a little more for electricity. Showers are 50 cents and, unusually, 20 cents are charged for washing up water. The site is very quiet at night and the facilities are good. We made very good use of the washing machine too. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

The journey was fairly uneventful. Kim noticed a huge snarl up  of traffic in front of us on Google Maps and we joined the queue near Dresden just as we arrived at a junction. The delay was estimated at almost an hour, so we came off the autobahn and took a diversion along a rather twisty and narrow set of roads. Fortunately we met very little traffic coming toward us but we did have to pull over a number of times to allow traffic to pass.

Once back on the motorway the traffic flowed freely. We stopped at the last rest area before crossing into the Czech Republic to buy the required vignette to use the motorways. I chose to get the thirty day one at a cost of €18. If you are heading this way please note they only take cash!

Our site of choice for visiting Prague is Camping Sokol Praha. It is a smallish Camping Card site priced at €17 per night inclusive of electricity. The facilities are superb, and included in the price. There is also a free minibus shuttle to the bus or train station.
