The last couple of nights at Camping Klosterneuburg had been very blustery and the caravan had been rocked quite alarmingly to the point of even waking Kim up 🙂 A quick look at my Weatherpro app confirmed that it was probably time to move on again.
We have accepted an invitation to join friends for a golfing holiday in Grantham at the end of November, and wanting to avoid the rush north that we had undertaken last year, we didn’t want to travel much further south or east, so we looked west for a suitable site.
A Camping Card site, Panorama Camp Zell am See, at €19 seemed to fit the bill. This would be a good base to visit the area and I could visit another motorcycle tour omission, The Grossglockner Pass.
Just after we had made our way over for a shower, the heavens opened so hard it could be heard on the roof of the shower block.
To avoid too much wet clothing I had to don swimming shorts, golf jacket & flip-flops whilst I dismantled the satellite dish and all the other external packing away work before hooking up the van.
Thoroughly drenched I retreated to the shower block to change while Kim went and paid.

We set off, initially in the wrong direction (navigation mismatch 🙂 ), and were almost immediately surrounded by heavy morning traffic, in awful conditions on the motorways around Vienna. Progress was quite slow due to the huge amount of lorries and overtaking restrictions.
Eventually the traffic eased as we moved away from the city, but the weather never improved.
On leaving the motorway we made our way north toward Zell Am See in a long line of traffic.
Relieved to reach our chosen camp site we were met by a lovely lady who explained that, despite published information, they were closed. Doh!
The lady suggested a couple of alternatives so we headed for the closest of these.
Campingplatz Seecamp is located at the northern end of the large lake, a 30 minute walk from Zell Am See, and offers excellent facilities all year round. It is expensive for short stays though, at over €30 a night excluding electricity, tourist tax, and environment tax. The on site restaurant has good reviews but was closed during our visit.
