About 3.5 kms a 10 minute cycle from our campsite on flat roads, is a protected nature area called Parc natural el Fondo.
We hadn’t been here before but Lutz had stayed overnight in the car park aire and recommended it to us.
Despite the visitor centre being closed on the day we visited there are several routes around the reservoirs which have been created, where you can enjoy the peace and quiet and the wild life which frequents this area. El Hondo lies between Elche and Crevillent and was designated AONB in 1988.
We took the boardwalk across one of the reservoirs and followed the blue route, pausing at sign posted observatories to enjoy the landscape and the bird life.
The walk was very relaxing and we passed a few keen photographers, with expensive camera equipment, who were enjoying the views and the water fowl too.
