The Colosseum

Friday 3rd May 2019

Today we drove a few kilometres over to the local station, Ostia Antica, to take the train into Rome to visit the Colosseum. Our first parking attempt at the station car park actually turned out to be at a cemetery, but we were soon put right by a friendly local and found one of the last places free at the real station car park 🙂

Kim & I had visited Rome a few years previously and, although we had seen the outside of the arena, we hadn’t entered. Time to put that right. We purchased the tickets at the station, €7 each for a 24hr period on all public transport. Continue reading The Colosseum

Next Stop Italy

Wednesday 1st May 2019

Yesterday we arranged for a late checkout from Vilanova Park and had a casual day packing up, preparing to travel to our next stop, Italy. This activity was interspersed with coffee breaks and sitting out in the sushine, to wile the time away until our 5pm departure from camp.

We set off toward Grimaldi Lines Terminal at Barcelona docks taking the toll road so as to avoid the winding narrow coast road with the caravan. The expected tow time of 45 minutes became over an hour due to traffic but we had plenty of time to spare.

Vilanova i la Geltrú

Sunday 28th March 2019

On Friday we made the final step of our journey back up to Barcelona to catch the ferry to Italy by returning to Vilanova Park in Vilanova i la Geltrú, a trip of 200km on non-toll autovia. The ferry to Civitavecchia, near Rome, is booked for 22:30 on Tuesday and the docks are only a 45 minute tow from the campsite. We arrived early afternoon and were allocated a large quiet pitch which, as is usual here, had electric hookup, water & waste all on pitch. Too easy! 🙂
