Despite the inclement weather we had enjoyed our time at Ballum Camping. We had decided to stay for a third night and do a long drive down to Lutzs’ on Monday.
Today we are heading for Sweden. We were booked on the 18:30hr TT Lines ferry from Rostock to Trelleborg so we had a casual pack up of the car and caravan. Lutz & Antje had an appointment in Berlin so we said our goodbyes and proceeded into Oranienburg for much needed supplies.
Around noon we were ready to roll and set off onto the autobahn. Almost immediately we were slowed to a crawl by road works and very heavy traffic. There were long sections of quite narrow lanes and 60kph speed limits.
Eventually we started to make good progress, well, 80kph progress which is the speed limit for untested caravans in Germany.
After a halfway stop for coffee we arrived in good time for our ferry, the delightfully named MS Huckleberry Finn.

Today we had plans to meet Lutz and Antje in Berlin later in the evening for a farewell/thank you dinner as well as an unexpected trip up the TV Tower courtesy of Lutz.
We had intended to take the train into Berlin for a final look around, but whilst on the train our plans changed. Continue reading Our last day in Berlin, Potsdam & TV Tower
We had both seen the film, The Bridge of Spies, with the brilliant Mark Rylance and Tom Hanks, and Ray remembered, during his
childhood, the U-2 spy plane incident, which ultimately involved a prisoner exchange on Glienicke Bridge.
The bridge was about a one hour drive from our location in Oranienburg. The bridge connects Potsdam, the capital city of Brandenburg with Berlin and crosses the Havel River. The bridge itself is named after the Glienicke Palace which is located on the east bank of the river. Continue reading Glienicke Bridge, Potsdam
Following a great evening spent with our hosts Lutz, Antje and Lisa, Lutz kindly offered to drive us into Berlin today and take us to some special parts of the city before he headed off to get on with domestic chores of his own. Continue reading Berlin
