We wanted to make use of the cycle routes (Fietsroute) that were on our doorstep despite the extremely hot weather that we were experiencing, as we don’t often get the opportunity to cycle in such a safe manner. No safety helmets here. Only foreigners apparently according to our Dutch neighbours 😉 Continue reading Bronkhorst, Gelderland→
Ray has always been keen to visit places with a connection to World War events and our proximity to the city of Arnhem made a trip to the John Frost Bridge, The Bridge Too Far, in Arnhem a real possibility.
Even more so, we could cycle there on designated cycle routes. Only 20 kms there and 20 kms back again. We both felt we were up for it, even without the assistance of a battery powered bike each 😉 Continue reading Arnhem Cycle Ride→
Unbeknown to us our chosen destination was in an area of Gelderland called Achterhoek. It is a delightful rural area and a superb spot for anyone who enjoys the great outdoors. We had views of the River and were surrounded by fields, farms and had access to a web of cycle routes, clearly signposted, which made exploring the area and the small villages around us so easy. (Plus nearly all on the flat!) Continue reading Gelderland, Doesburg, Netherlands→
Thursday morning we set an alarm, a rare event these days, locked the caravan, and set off for Dunkirk for the 10am ferry to Dover for what turned out to be a hectic week!
We were due to attend the wedding of good friends Ray & Denise on Saturday in Wokingham. My brother Steve was coming over to caravan sit.
We planned to visit with as many relatives as possible and do some shopping for stuff we have been unable to find enroute. We were also collecting our new Thule Omnistor canopy that Kim had purchased online as well.
We realised today that we have been more than a little remiss with the blog the last 10 days or so. This has been because we have either been travelling, heading north, or enjoying some good old fashioned doing nothing whilst taking in the sun.
We needed to make progress north to attend a wedding on the 30th, and we still want to visit Scandinavia this summer.
