Camping Le Florida

Thursday 18th January 2018

In our continuing effort to escape the dull, damp, weather we have experienced over the last month, we decided to head toward Perpignan where the forecast was warm and dry.

The Camping Card app showed that Campsite Le Florida would serve us well at €17 a night, and despite an unusual review that mentioned a medieval toilet block, we made that the target for the day, a 461km route.

We set off under overcast skies but the weather quickly improved and we spent most of the day in sunny conditions. Travelling on the autoroutes is a pleasure and well worth the toll fee for the progress you can make.

Highlight of the route was a fine view of Carcassonne as we passed. Sorry, picture from Kims’ phone doesn’t do it justice.

We arrived at the site with about two hours of daylight left and a very pleasant temperature, and were met by a charming lady at reception who instructed us to find a pitch and report back to pay. The pitch we chose was easily the largest we have ever used.

After setting up it was time to investigate the unusual toilet/shower block 🙂 I have no idea why it is styled thus.

Inside is even stranger 🙂

Despite its weird appearance, the facilities are clean and serviceable except the showers, which require you to hold in a button to supply water, all of the time!

That said, we will be returning.

Later we went off to the local supermarket for supplies before returning to camp. Surprisingly, we decided it was time for a drink. 🙂

We intend to stay a couple of nights to have a thorough spring clean and some maintenance on the van which has started to look a little second hand.
