A mere 2 hour drive from our campsite in Germany and we could be at the Rhine Falls in Switzerland. The picturesque drive through the Regional Naturepark of Schaffhausen would lead us to the Rheinfall, a place that Ray had seen signposted on his previous motorcycle trips but had not visited. After a couple of days of inclement weather we decided to escape our cabin fever and take a drive out and boy were we taken by surprise.

Campsite in the distance from the wine trail
View up towards the panoramic walk and wine trail
The trail made a steady climb through endless vineyards whilst enjoying the views below. Information boards, in German, provided details of the history of the vineyards and the purpose of the trail and the Castellberg Project.
Well preserved historic dry-stone walls and steps in the vineyard
Hazy view towards Sulzburg
The sight of so many vines came as quite a shock to both of us as neither of us had any idea that this area in Germany was home to one of the country’s wine growing regions, although that said, 80% of production is sold locally 😉 Continue reading Todtnauer Waterfall →

Campingpark Oberammergau had been a nice place to stay. The facilities are good and everyone on site friendly. The advertised Camping Card rate of €17 per night was once again bloated by tourist tax, environment tax etc to nearer €23, a bit annoying.
We decided to move over into the Black Forest region for the next leg of our journey back to the UK. I had passed through the region in 2009 on the motorcycle and fancied a closer look. The weather forecast for that region was better than close to the Alps too 🙂
