All Towing Posts – This tag marks all posts where we were travelling between stopping sites while towing the caravan. It does not include sightseeing trips.
Thursday morning we set an alarm, a rare event these days, locked the caravan, and set off for Dunkirk for the 10am ferry to Dover for what turned out to be a hectic week!
We were due to attend the wedding of good friends Ray & Denise on Saturday in Wokingham. My brother Steve was coming over to caravan sit.
We planned to visit with as many relatives as possible and do some shopping for stuff we have been unable to find enroute. We were also collecting our new Thule Omnistor canopy that Kim had purchased online as well.
We realised today that we have been more than a little remiss with the blog the last 10 days or so. This has been because we have either been travelling, heading north, or enjoying some good old fashioned doing nothing whilst taking in the sun.
We needed to make progress north to attend a wedding on the 30th, and we still want to visit Scandinavia this summer.
With the weather forecast for Bidart predicting wet weather for the next few days it was time to move on. The weather over to the east of France was supposedly much better so we decided to head that way.
I had visited Millau two times previously on my motorcycle trips, and the viaduct and surrounding area are amazing. Kim had not been there so it was decided to head that way. We thought that the trip was too many kilometres for one day so headed for Camping Midi Pyrénées, at Montréjeau, an easy couple of hours away, for a one or two night stopover.
The combination of heavy rain, poor weather forecasts, and not least, the thoroughly waterlogged ground our caravan was parked on brought about a big change of plan today. We had intended staying in northern Spain for at least another week to visit the region around Bilbao and Guggenheim museum.
In my motorcycling touring days I had considered coming to the Picos de Europa on a couple of occasions but the lure of further destinations such as Croatia and Norway had always taken priority. Now was a good time to rectify my omission. We packed up and set off along the the A8 Autovia toward Campsite La Isla-Picos de Europa
